I've been a fan of The Barrel House Blues Orchestra for years. We used to cram into the rather salubrious setting of the old Rivers Arms on Station Road, and listen to Paul Hart's creation, sublime music. Following his untimely death his vision has lived on, and now Bob Shearn has stepped forward to take the helm.
I thrive on the challenge of covering live music events, matching poor light and dubious accessibility to the stage, being right there, but not being seen. But that challenge is made all the more pleasant when you are in the presence of musicians of this calibre, who can make their complex task seem so effortless.
Should you ever get the chance to see the Barrel House Blues Orchestra perform live, take it.
